A Young Tree Stands

Amidst arctic cold
Impossible to withstand,
A young tree stands
With courage untold.

With branches shivering,
And trunk nearly frozen,
It stands, almost brazen,
Refusing to give in.

Glacial winds blow,
Attacking mercilessly.
Yet with utmost bravery,
It stands, covered in snow.

Leaves wither away,
Its soul jailed in ice,
Nears its demise,
As day passes day.

Hope a distant dream,
A glimmer amidst dark skies,
Yet its warmth suffices,
Even if a miniscule gleam.

And so through winter’s cold,
A tree stubbornly stands,
Troubles stubbornly withstood
With courage untold.

  2. Oh sorry, I thought I had left a comment on this one..Well here it is now..a beautifully descriptive winter metaphor, I felt the valor of the young tree as I also feel the courage of humanity in these cold persistent months of pandemic.. I really liked this line:”Leaves wither away,
    Its soul jailed in ice,
    Nears its demise,
As day passes day.” I think “jailed in ice” is a perfect image of us locked in our homes in the winter. Wonderful writing Veera!
