Hey all! I’m back with my first freeverse poem. Enjoy!
When morning dawned,
I rose to take a bath
In the ocean of poetry,
That was nature itself,
It suddenly became
A boiling sea of lava,
Unwilling to accept my mind.
Birds gleefully glided in the sky,
Swooping on sneaky worms;
Squirrels scampered across branches,
Seeking scrumptious acorns,
Endless material for poems,
Yet no words welded within,
No lines linked to form stanzas,
It made me wonder,
Was I right to fear,
I’ve lost my poetic touch?
The forges that had molded magic
Now molded mere words
That warbled not meaning,
Rather,rhymes that reflected nothing,
Like crystal waters that mirror
One’s reflection,plain and clear,
I can’t help but fear
I’ve lost my poetic touch.
The paint that had painted art
Now painted a cluster of colors,
A rainbow of restrained shades,
Not shining bright in the sky,
Not hiding any mysteries,
That the reader relishes,
Only an insignificant image appears,
I can’t help but fear,
I’ve lost my poetic touch.
But as I sit here pondering,
I can’t help but relive
The tools I employed once,
Meticulously crafted metaphors,
Anaphoras,alliterations,assonance,
Onomatopoeia’s thunderous voice,
To craft poetry that arose
Artworks appreciated by all,
I now realise,it is vivid,
The message conveyed by the lava livid,
I’ve lost my poetic touch.

P.S: I tried out freeverse without syllabilic restrictions for the first time ever, there’s a lot of room to improve, I guess, still,I’m proud of my first attempt! π

Well this is one of your very best…continue into free verse, for it is also free expression, and is of course topical…..so, I really liked very much how you played with nature here…and surrealism, writing superb lines about clearly poetic moments that you claimed you could not put into poetic lines! I thought that was SO clever! Very well done…

It’s a muse requirement that one spread one’s wings and test them out on the new at least every once in awhile. I think the repeating line works very well.
