Hey all! I’m back with my next haibun. Enjoy!
To be honest,I rather like winter, along with monsoon, for the refreshing change they bring from the scorching summer heat of South India(Chennai in particular!!). But to people who’ve skied over real winter, borne the sometimes unbearable cold, the winter of Chennai will seem like summer. But December festivities continue in the same spirit, despite the absence of a soft, white blanket on the streets complementing them, Christians light up and decorate Christmas trees with the same gusto as displayed by any others. Then again,I think of winter more existent as a spirit, than a season, and that spirit can be observed by all, regardless of whether the weather is snowy or sweltering!
River supplies all
Whether animal,or not,
With fresh water rife.

That was so fascinating…the christmas a spirit…I lived in Bahrain a while, and I remember my Indian colleagues enjoying the festivities very much there. In fact, it was a lovely way to celebrate, without the isolating emphasis of the seasonal christianity. I loved Diwali there of course. Wonderful. Really liked your haibun for the writing as well as the topic. Your haiku was so cleverly contrasted.

β€ Thank you very much,my friend! Yes,I suppose many don't mind their being a religious minority and go about their practices and festivities wholeheartedly,I think it is the right thing to do! π β€

Well David, tbh it depends on the place in Chennai, some are not obliged to do it,but do it,but not all do that. Many people here are very religious hindus, but that doesn’t prevent them from mingling joyfully with people from other religions. But to be completely honest,I wasn’t exactly referring to the fact that all people light Christmas trees,I was referring to the fact that people in Chennai decorate trees with the same gusto as any Christian…wait, lemme change it π

A very nice haibun. I am more a fan of winter than summer. It gets very hot here as well.
