My next haibun
Today, my friends, we students(10th graders) were finally liberated from the pressure of boards. Today, the final board exam(computer science) got over. Our expressions of joy were uncontrollably crazy, as we exuberantly drank innumerable goli sodas* and found ourselves unable to guzzle the delicious lunches that awaited at home. But that joy was short-lived.
For upon our arrival, most of us were greeted not with pleasant surprises or welcome expressions from our parents, but with an email that we had dreaded the most since boards had begun- the details of our vacation. If you call 6 days a vacation.
Our parents had argued on our behalf(we cannot find words to describe our gratitude) and increased the vacation duration from 3 to 6 days. Now, the school may reopen on June 6th instead of June 1st, as a new government order has made it mandatory to postpone the reopening of schools. But even that boils down to a ludicrous summer vacation, especially given that we students want a break from studies, as the school would put pressure on us to study from day 1 (the pressure on 11th grade science group students is unimaginable here). All other schools have allowed students a months’ worth of holidays, but our school is adamant on reopening while temperatures continue to peak.
Well, there is no use in complaining about it, but it is a very unfair decision by the school, in my opinion. We need atleast a couple weeks’ worth of holidays for relaxing…is that really too much to ask of the school?
‘Midst scorching summer
End boards, ‘midst scorching summer
Ends our short-lived joy.

This has been penned for the DVerse haibun prompt, where poets were asked to pen haibuns alluding to summer. Since this whole thing is taking place during summer, I thought I’d pen a haibun on this topic….if it doesn’t comply with the rules, I will pen another one. Anyways, you can access the prompt at https://dversepoets.com/2022/05/23/haibun-monday-5-23-22-summer/ .

Wow… 6 days is barely time to catch your breath between terms. Good luck with the next one!
