Listening to your Laments

Hey all! I’m back with a poem about a person’s suicide, narrated from the perspective of a friend. This is purely fictional, and a bit long,I agree, but still a story.

I remember meeting you
On the first day of school,
A new student was I,
Just another carefree fool.

You were sitting alone,
Moody,melancholy;
Your bloodshot eyes eyed
Advancing bullies.

They called you names,
They nailed you to the wall,
Let loose punch after punch,
Relishing your bawls.

They snatched your glasses,
Ignored your pleas frail,
Smashed it,sneering,
Mocking your wails.

I’d stood and watched
As they tormented you,
A pathetic coward
Unable to protect you…

I did what I could,
I wiped off your tears,
Reminded you,that one
Considered you dear.

I gave you solace
From your abusive parents,
I sat with you,shouldering
Your many burdens.

I remember,once,
You left your home,
‘Twas midnight,you were hungry,
You roamed,all alone.

Arrived at my doorstep,
You didn’t ring the bell,
But I was awake and watching,
Gathered food to feed you well.

You hadn’t eaten dinner,
Having had an argument,
Beaten up,left crying,
I sat listening to your laments.

You considered me a friend,
Your one,true friend;
As I tried to mend
A mind torn to shreds.

Those memories of old,
My blood and breath
Dawned stark and clear
As I mourned your death.

You’d jumped off a building,
Fifteen feet tall,
As the breaking dawn dawned
To your downfall.

The only thought plaguing me
As I mourned your suicide,
I hadn’t done enough,
To keep you from the other side.

I still remember you telling,
“Hardships,the strong endure,
While the weak weep and weep,
Until they can take it no more.”

Perhaps one person was no good,
For your tormented life,
Keeping you from choosing
Above all,the knife.

  1. Oh my goodness, what a stunning piece, sad and full of agony 🤔. I just hope it ain’t a true story. Otherwise, I’m sincerely sorry for your loss. Life can’t get any better, if it ain’t physical, then it’s emotional. What a pity! 🥲🥲💕

      1. Oh thank God! Phew, was such a nice sombre story. In 2020 I had a close friend of mine take away his life for reasons he did not disclose to anyone. We were close friend in campus. I was so emotional and morned him like one mourning their beloved. M’hmmm… 🤔 I think, among other things, that’s why this story touched me so much. I could resonate with it.
