Words Can’t Narrate…

My next sonnet, y’all!

Girl walking in the streets, alone at night,
Encounters a gang of lust-laden boys,
Tries to run, ends up caught, too weak to fight,
Mewls tears of pain as they laugh with joy..

Left battered and bruised, cold and alone,
Left to her suffering and agony,
Her dignity destroyed,her respect gone,
An unforgett’ble,haunting memory.

Sorrow became anger as longed justice,
Justice for a victim of heinous crimes,
Would one listen, though,to her pleading cries
Demanding just,fleeting action in time?

Her body would narrate the tale words wouldn’t,
Her mind would narrate the thoughts words couldn’t.

This has been penned for DVerse, where poets were asked to pen poems inspired by one of the five quotes given, taken from various poems of Amrita Pritam. Her wonderful words did inspire this poem!

I chose the line “(There are) many stories which are not on paper, they are written in the bodies and minds of women.”

You can access the prompt at https://dversepoets.com/2022/05/31/poetics-women-are-people-invoking-amrita-pritam/

Oh yes, many of my friends told me that this seems unfinished when they read this, so any suggestions? 🙂
